Who am I?
Hey!
I’m Kevin “Aba” Wang, a performance coach who specializes in the mental side of esports. I’m not a traditional sports psychologist. I’m a lifelong gamer who turned a passion for performance into a science-backed system for helping players thrive under pressure.
My journey began long before coaching, when I was 9 years old and discovered League of Legends. Then, I attended my first esports event, CLG vs. TSM at Madison Square Garden in 2015. Experiencing the energy and intensity of that moment sparked a deep love for competition that has stayed with me ever since.
While studying psychology at Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College, I started coaching the League of Legends team and became obsessed with the question: What actually helps players perform when it matters most? That curiosity led me to pursue an MSc in Performance Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, where I wrote my dissertation on Clutch Performance in Collegiate Esports Athletes.
Professionally, I’ve worked as the performance coach for FOKUS Valorant, and as an assistant coach for FOKUS Sakura. These experiences gave me firsthand insight into what elite competition really demands, not just in theory, but in the day-to-day grind of pro play.
My coaching blends lived gaming experience with performance psychology tools designed specifically for competitive players. I love this work, not just for the game itself, but for the process of helping people push past their limits and perform better than they ever thought they could.
If you’re ready to level up, I’m here to help you get there.

Q: What is Performance Psychology?
A: Performance psychology is the study and application of mental skills and strategies that help individuals perform at their best under pressure. While it's often associated with elite athletes, it's equally valuable in esports, performing arts, business, and any field where consistent high-level performance is required.
It can be broken down into three key phases: pre-performance, during performance, and post-performance. Each phase plays a crucial role in supporting long-term development and consistent execution.
Pre-performance focuses on preparation. This includes setting clear goals, creating effective improvement plans, and tracking progress over time. It’s about building a strong foundation before you compete.
During performance involves managing mental and emotional states in real time. This is where tools like focus control, anxiety management, and positive self-talk are used to maintain peak performance under pressure.
Post-performance is about reflection and growth. It involves reviewing what worked, what didn’t, and identifying lessons to bring into future performances.
Together, these three phases provide a complete framework for mental performance, helping competitors build confidence, stay focused, and continuously improve.
Q: What does a typical session look like?
A: Each session is tailored to your needs. We’ll explore challenges you're facing, develop mental tools, and work on strategies to help you perform at your best consistently.
